About MATE

MATE is an AI agent for Adobe After Effects developed by OMATA Labs. Users describe desired actions in natural language and MATE performs tasks such as staggering and reorganizing layers, text replacement, animation addition, script and expression generation, and render‑queue management. The plugin works with After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, and CS3. It can operate on four AI back‑ends—OpenAI GPT, Claude, Gemini, and Mistral—and includes usage of the base models GPT‑5.4 Mini and Claude Haiku 4.5 under an active license. Supplying personal API keys unlocks additional models, including higher‑tier options. MATE also accepts PDF, CSV, and JSON files as prompt inputs and can update project data accordingly, and it offers MCP connectors for services such as Notion. Version 2.1.0 adds Claude Sonnet 5 support.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does MATE support?

MATE supports After Effects 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, and CS3. It is compatible with any of these listed versions; other versions should be verified on the developer’s page before installation.

Which AI models does MATE include, and do I need my own API key?

MATE includes usage of the base models GPT‑5.4 Mini and Claude Haiku 4.5 with an active license, so it works out of the box. Adding your own provider API keys enables additional OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, and Mistral models, including higher‑tier options such as GPT‑5.5 and Claude Opus 4.7/4.8.

Can MATE read files like PDFs or CSVs in a prompt?

Yes. MATE allows PDF, CSV, and JSON files to be attached to a prompt, allowing the plugin to update text, project data, or other settings based on the file contents. It also supports MCP connectors for external services like Notion.

Is MATE free to use?

The catalog lists MATE as free. However, licensing terms may change, and AI usage for additional models requires your own API keys. The included base models remain available without extra keys.
