About Random Roller
Random Roller is a script for After Effects that introduces controlled randomness into layer management. It can randomly select a subset of layers in the active composition, assign selected or deselected status, and use a re‑roll feature to narrow the selection. Users can invert the random selection, randomize the order of layers, or randomize the order in which layers are selected, supporting the Quick Offset workflow. The script also sorts selected layers into a user‑defined number of groups; each effect‑capable layer receives a Slider Control reflecting its group number. Optional features include applying label colors to groups, prefixing layer names with the group number, and adding comments to each grouped layer. Dedicated buttons allow selection of a specific group or adding a group to the current selection. Random Roller runs on After Effects 2026, 2025, and 2024, with the latest version 1.1.4 released on April 2, 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Does Random Roller work with After Effects 2024?
Yes. Random Roller supports After Effects 2024, as well as the 2025 and 2026 releases. The current version 1.1.4 runs on any of these three versions without known issues.
What does Random Roller’s Randomize Selection Order function do?
The Randomize Selection Order function shuffles the order in which the selected layers are listed, without changing the actual layer stack. It was added to work with After Effects’ Quick Offset feature.
How does Random Roller organize layers into groups?
Random Roller sorts selected layers into a specified number of groups. For each effect‑compatible layer it adds a Slider Control set to the group number, and can optionally apply label colors, name prefixes, and comments for easier identification.
Is Random Roller free to use?
The catalog lists Random Roller as free. Licensing terms may change, so checking the developer’s page for the latest pricing and license details is recommended.
