About TextDuratifier

TextDuratifier calculates the length of time each text layer should appear in After Effects by analyzing the layer’s content and applying a reading‑speed model. The script can also sequentially arrange layers on the timeline and generate an adaptive background with a configurable corner radius. Version 1.1.0 updated the speed‑calculation defaults, refreshed the color‑picker UI, and added persistence of script settings across After Effects restarts. Compatibility spans After Effects CS3 through the 2025 release, allowing use in both legacy and current projects. A demo video is hosted on the developer’s page.

Features

  • Sets the duration of a layer based on its content
  • Calculates timing from the viewer’s reading speed
  • Arranges layers one by one on the timeline
  • Creates an adaptive background for text
  • Option to set the corner radius for the background
  • Script settings restored after restarting After Effects

Best for

Editors and motion designers creating text‑heavy videos, especially when working with unfamiliar languages or needing consistent timing without manual measurement.

Frequently asked questions

Which After Effects versions does TextDuratifier support?

TextDuratifier supports After Effects versions from CS3 up through the 2025 release, including CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6, CC, CC 2014, CC 2015, CC 2015.3, CC 2017, CC 2018, CC 2019, and the 2020‑2024 editions.

How does TextDuratifier decide how long a text layer should last?

The script estimates a text layer’s duration by evaluating the amount of text and applying a configurable reading‑speed factor, so the timing reflects how long a typical viewer would need to read the content.
