MAX2AE bridges 3ds MAX and After Effects, allowing full‑feature data transfer of cameras, lights, and objects. Every property of a MAX camera, object, or light can be exported to After Effects, preserving resolution, pixel aspect, and frame‑rate settings. The plugin also supports object‑to‑layer animation matching, light‑to‑light animation matching, and the creation of helper planes that represent AE layers or compositions within MAX. These helpers are animatable like any other MAX object, can output keyframe data to AE, and can be rendered to generate track mattes for occlusion. Recent updates add support for 3ds MAX 2024, and the plugin works with After Effects versions 6.5, 7.0, CS2 through CS6, and CC. Additional features include particle export as layers, nulls, or lights, SpaceWarp support, and automatic scene scaling.
