About SLCTR

SLCTR is a layer‑selection and re‑timing script for Adobe After Effects developed by Tim Bywater. It enables selection of all layers, or only those behind or ahead of the play‑head, with the scope limited to a chosen layer type. Selections can also be filtered by colour or label and confined to the current Workspace. The SHIFT action aligns the selected layers to the play‑head while keeping their internal timing relationships intact, and the FLIP action reverses the order of selected layers (or all layers if none are selected). Version 1.0 was released in November 2023 and is compatible with After Effects 2020 through 2025.

Features

  • Select all layers from a chosen layer type scope
  • Select layers behind or ahead of the play-head, scoped by layer type
  • Select layers sharing the same colour or label as the current selection
  • SHIFT selected layers to line up to the play-head while retaining their relative timing
  • FLIP the order of selected layers top to bottom, or all layers if none are selected
  • Restrict any selection to the current Workspace

Best for

After Effects users who need to retime compositions by selecting layers relative to the play‑head and shifting them while preserving their timing relationships.

Frequently asked questions

Does SLCTR work with After Effects 2025?

Yes. SLCTR is listed as compatible with After Effects 2025, as well as versions 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020.

How does the SHIFT action in SLCTR handle timing?

The SHIFT action moves the selected layers so their start points line up with the play‑head, but it keeps the original spacing between the layers, preserving their relative timing.

What can SLCTR select layers by?

SLCTR can select layers by their position relative to the play‑head (all, behind, or ahead), by layer type scope, by matching colour, or by matching label. Any of these selections may be limited to the current Workspace.

Is SLCTR free to use?

The catalog lists SLCTR as free. For the latest licensing terms, refer to the developer’s page on aescripts, as conditions may change.
