Gaussian Splatting by irrealix imports, crops, colors, combines and renders up to ten 3D Gaussian Splatting .ply models in DaVinci Resolve using GPU‑accelerated real‑time rendering, with depth‑pass output for compositing.

About Gaussian Splatting
Gaussian Splatting is a DaVinci Resolve plugin from irrealix that lets users load 3D Gaussian Splatting .ply files and manipulate them directly in the timeline. The tool provides spherical, box and Y‑plane cropping, color ramps, opacity ramps, scale animation and noise distortion. Up to ten models can be combined in a single scene, and a depth pass can be rendered for 3D compositing. Version 1.6.10 (released February 6, 2026) adds support for rendering 2D layers within the GS environment and improves handling of large models and massive splat counts. The plugin is compatible with DaVinci Resolve versions 21, 20, 19 and 18 and performs all rendering on the GPU in real time. A demo video and external .ply generation services such as lumalabs.ai are referenced.
Features
- Import .ply files directly in DaVinci Resolve
- Crop with spherical, box, or Y-plane shapes
- Combine up to 10 models in a single scene
- Colorize with a ramp using spherical or box shape, and reveal models with an opacity ramp
- Animate splat scale with spherical or box shape, and distort each model with noise
- Render a depth pass for 3D compositing
- Real-time rendering with the GPU, plus scene export
Best for
DaVinci Resolve artists who need to integrate 3D Gaussian Splatting scans into motion‑graphics or visual‑effects compositions.
Frequently asked questions
Which DaVinci Resolve versions does Gaussian Splatting support?
Gaussian Splatting works with DaVinci Resolve 21, 20, 19 and 18. Those releases support importing, manipulating and rendering .ply files in real time.
Is Gaussian Splatting free to download?
The catalog lists Gaussian Splatting as free, but licensing terms may be detailed on the developer’s site. Verify any conditions before downloading.
How do I create a .ply file to use with Gaussian Splatting?
.ply files can be generated with external services such as lumalabs.ai, which creates Gaussian Splatting scans from video or image inputs and provides a downloadable .ply file.
What’s new in Gaussian Splatting 1.6.10?
Version 1.6.10 adds the ability to render 2D layers within the GS environment, improves loading of large models, and enhances rendering performance for very high splat counts.
