About Hugly

Hugly is a utility for Adobe After Effects that provides two complementary functions for expression code. It can “uglify” expressions, converting them into a form that is difficult to read, which is useful for protecting proprietary scripts. Conversely, it can clean obfuscated expressions back into a clear, readable format, facilitating easy sharing or hand‑off. The plugin works with After Effects CC 2019 through the 2026 release, covering both older and recent versions of the host application. Version 1.0, released on October 29, 2025, represents the initial public build. A demonstration video is provided by the developer for an overview of the tool’s capabilities. Licensing details are available on the developer’s page, and the plugin is listed as free in this catalog.
