About PastePath

PastePath enables copying of mask or shape paths in After Effects and pasting them onto other masks or shape layers. It supports both static and keyframed paths, preserving any linked transformations or keyframes. After selecting a source path, users click “Copy Path” then choose either “Paste Mask” to apply the data as a mask on selected layers, or “Paste Shape” to insert it into selected shape path properties or create a new shape layer if none is selected. Multiple paths can be copied and pasted simultaneously, with keyframes defaulting to the current time indicator; holding Ctrl/Cmd retains the original keyframe timing. Pasted paths retain the original names, and a setting can correct mask direction for proper feathering. The script does not support the shape group property Skew.

Features

  • Copy selected paths including mask and shape paths, along with associated transformations or path keyframes
  • Paste Mask applies copied path data as mask paths to selected layers
  • Paste Shape pastes path data into selected shape path properties, or creates a new shape layer if none is selected
  • Copy multiple paths and paste to multiple selected vector paths at once, with keyframe support
  • Pasted paths take the names of the paths that were copied
  • Keyframes paste at the CTI by default; hold Ctrl/Cmd on Paste to keep original keyframe times
  • Settings option to automatically fix masks with a clockwise direction so the feather tool works correctly

Best for

After Effects artists who need to transfer path data—including keyframed paths—between masks and shape layers efficiently.

Frequently asked questions

What After Effects versions does PastePath support?

PastePath is compatible with Adobe After Effects CS6 and all later releases up to and including the 2026 version, covering CC, CC 2014‑2019, and the 2020‑2025 releases.

Can PastePath copy keyframed paths, not just static ones?

Yes. PastePath copies both static and keyframed paths, preserving any associated transformations or path keyframes during the copy operation.

How does PastePath paste a copied path?

After copying a path, PastePath offers two paste options: “Paste Mask” adds the copied data as a mask on the selected layers, while “Paste Shape” inserts it into selected shape path properties or creates a new shape layer if none are selected. The pasted paths keep the original names, and keyframes are placed at the current time indicator unless Ctrl/Cmd is held to retain original timings.

Is PastePath free to use?

The catalog lists PastePath as free. Licensing details and any activation requirements should be confirmed on the developer’s page.
