About Un-PreCompose

Un-PreCompose is a script for Adobe After Effects that reverses precomposition by extracting every layer from a nested composition and placing them into the parent composition while retaining all effects, masks, and other layer properties. It can process multiple pre‑comps in a single operation, optionally correct the placement of layers with randomized expressions, and prepend each extracted layer with the name of its original pre‑comp for clearer organization. The script includes native Apple Silicon support and is compatible with After Effects versions from CC 2018 through 2026. It is listed as free, and a demo video is provided on the developer’s site. Version 1.1.5, released June 2023, includes bug fixes for Windows crashes.

Features

  • Extracts all layers from a nested composition into the parent composition while maintaining effects and other properties
  • Un-precompose multiple pre-comps in a single run to work more efficiently
  • Optionally attempts to correct placement of layers containing randomized expressions
  • Prepends extracted layers with the name of the pre-comp for easier organization
  • Native Apple Silicon support

Best for

After Effects artists who need to flatten nested compositions back into the parent comp while preserving each layer’s effects and properties.
