About Pixel Melt

Pixel Melt, developed by Satori, provides pixel‑level stretching and displacement effects for After Effects and Premiere Pro. It supports a wide range of releases from CS6 through 2026, allowing melting simulations, scanline separation, and various shading options (plain, sine, triangle, linear). Controls include direction, spread, shading phase, and detailed scanline parameters such as amplitude and period. Additional features are wrap mode, fullscreen stretch, off‑screen reach, and fade start/end. Version 1.0.1 adds instant graph refresh and adaptive graph colors in After Effects and fixes a Premiere Pro macOS exception. The plugin runs on both hosts without requiring separate installations.

Features

  • Direction control for the edge melting occurs towards, with Spread setting the maximum stretching of pixels per melt step
  • Shading options: plain stretched, Sine Wave, Triangle Wave, or Linear Ramp Up or Down, with an animatable Shading Phase
  • Scanline modulation shaped by Amplitude, Period, Phase, Exponent and Invert parameters
  • Velocity and spread curve mapping with Phase and Floor settings plus a Graph that visualizes the mapping
  • Wrap mode so pixels reappear from the opposite side instead of falling beyond the visible area
  • Fullscreen Stretch post-effect and Off-screen Reach for parts of the simulation beyond the visible screen
  • Fade Start and Fade End for dimming the ends of scanlines

Best for

Creating pixel‑based melting, scanline separation, and custom distortion effects in After Effects and Premiere Pro.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pixel Melt work with After Effects 2026?

Yes. Pixel Melt supports After Effects 2026 and earlier versions listed in its compatibility data, so it runs on that release provided the host meets the stated system requirements.

Can Pixel Melt be used in Premiere Pro?

Yes. The plugin operates in Premiere Pro across the same version range as After Effects, from CS6 through 2026, with a fix for a macOS exception in recent builds.

Do Pixel Melt’s graphs behave the same in Premiere Pro as in After Effects?

No. The graph visualizations for velocity and spread curve mapping update instantly and adapt to the color theme only in After Effects; in Premiere Pro the plugin functions without those graph conveniences.

Is Pixel Melt free?

The catalog lists Pixel Melt as free, but licensing terms may change. Verify the current license on the developer’s site before downloading.
