About Baga Ivy Simulation & Generator

Baga Ivy Simulation & Generator is a free Blender addon (V3) that provides two workflows for adding ivy: an animated Simulation Mode and a procedural generator. In Simulation Mode you draw on a mesh to direct growth, control spread, foliage, and animation, and bake the result all at once or step‑by‑step with Auto‑Bake. The growth animation can be sped up, slowed down, or looped, and wind effects are retained after conversion to mesh. The procedural generator includes three modes: Fast for large‑area coverage, Accurate for surface‑adapting branch networks, and Precision for manual branch‑by‑branch drawing. A library of more than 300 assets and 70 preset species is integrated with Blender’s asset browser; assets use quad topology with minimal alpha for efficient subdivision. The addon works with both EEVEE and Cycles, offers a Proxy System and separate viewport/render resolutions for performance, and includes effectors, cut tools, and mesh conversion features.

Features

  • Simulation Mode generates animated ivy growth directed by drawing on the mesh, baked all at once or refined step-by-step with Auto-Bake
  • Three procedural generator modes: Fast for large-area coverage, Accurate for surface-adapting branch networks, and Precision for branch-by-branch drawing
  • Library of over 300 assets and 70 preset species, each with its own settings, integrated with Blender’s asset browser
  • Growth animation you can speed up, slow down, or loop, plus wind control that is preserved after converting to mesh
  • Proxy System and Bake All for viewport performance, with separate viewport and render resolutions and automatic bounding boxes for foliage
  • Effectors and Cut tools remove leaves or branches, and Convert to Mesh produces editable geometry
  • Compatible with both EEVEE and Cycles, built with quad topology and minimal alpha

Best for

Blender artists who need realistic ivy, whether for background fills or detailed hero assets, and want the option of animated growth or procedural placement.

Frequently asked questions

Does Baga Ivy Simulation work with Blender 4.3?

Yes. Baga Ivy Simulation (V3) supports Blender 4.3 and later. Earlier versions (V1, V2) are available for Blender 3.5 and up.

Can I export ivy created with Baga Ivy?

The addon can convert ivy to editable meshes, but it does not provide its own export functions. Only wind animation is kept after conversion; growth animation is not exported.

How does Baga Ivy handle viewport performance?

Viewport performance is improved by a Proxy System that swaps high‑poly assets for lightweight proxies, a Bake All feature for simulation, automatic bounding boxes for foliage, and separate resolution settings for viewport and render.

Is Baga Ivy free, and what license does it use?

The catalog lists Baga Ivy as free. It is distributed under a dual license that includes Royalty‑Free and GPL terms; the exact terms should be confirmed on the developer’s page.
