About Bbrush

Bbrush is a Python‑based add‑on for Blender 4.4 and newer that simulates ZBrush‑style sculpting. After selecting a mesh and entering Blender’s sculpt mode, Bbrush can be activated manually or set to start automatically via its preferences. A Bbrush button appears in the top bar, offering Normal, Mask, and Hidden modes. Extensive shortcuts cover view navigation, sculpting, smoothing and mask operations such as draw, erase, invert, fade, sharpen, fill, grow and shrink. The silhouette overlay can be set to Always, Only Sculpt, Only Bbrush, or Disabled, with an adjustable scale. Known limitations include lack of silhouette support in Blender 4.5 and disabling of multiresolution when hidden faces are toggled. The add‑on is released under the GNU GPL v3.0 or later.

Frequently asked questions

Does Bbrush work with Blender 4.4?

Yes. Bbrush is compatible with Blender 4.4 and newer; however, the silhouette overlay does not work in Blender 4.5 because the required API is not yet available.

Can Bbrush turn on automatically when I enter sculpt mode?

Bbrush can be configured to start automatically when you enter sculpt mode, via its preference settings, or you can activate it manually using the on‑screen button.

Is Bbrush free to use?

Bbrush is listed as free in the catalog and is distributed under the GNU GPL v3.0 or later, allowing free use, modification and redistribution under that license.

What should I know about multiresolution and crashes with Bbrush?

Switching hidden faces disables the multiresolution modifier, and combining Blender 3.0 with smooth brushes and inverted sculpting has been reported to cause crashes. Plan workflows accordingly.

How do I install Bbrush?

Install Bbrush by downloading the add‑on file and using Blender’s Preferences → Add‑ons → Install, then enable it. After installation, select a mesh, enter sculpt mode, and activate Bbrush via the top‑bar button.
