About Grease Pencil From Mesh
Grease Pencil From Mesh, developed by Sahin Ersoz, converts mesh geometry into 3D Grease Pencil objects or, in the Pro builds, into Curves. The add‑on filters edges to retain sharp edges, intersections and outlines of curved surfaces, and can selectively process edges marked Crease, Sharp or Freestyle. It translates mesh material colours to Grease Pencil strokes and can also render shadows and highlights in the ProS tier. Stroke stylisation options include wobble noise, random thickness, edge offset and multi‑line generation, producing natural‑looking strokes. The tool supports frame‑by‑frame animation conversion and Text Object conversion. It runs on Blender 3.1 – 5.1 and is released under the GPL licence. Free, Pro and ProS builds differ in feature set, with the paid tiers adding intersection lines, curved‑surface outlines and shadow/highlight rendering.
Features
- Mesh-to-Grease Pencil conversion with edge filtering for sharp edges, intersections and curved surface outlines
- Selective conversion of edges marked Crease, Sharp and Freestyle
- Full color conversion of mesh materials into Grease Pencil colors, with shadow and highlight conversion
- Stroke stylization via edge noise (wobble), random thickness, edge offset and multi lines
- Automatic natural looking strokes that start and end as an artist would draw
- Frame-by-frame animation conversion, Text Object conversion and Curves output
Best for
Blender artists who need to turn 3D meshes into Grease Pencil objects or Curves, especially when stylised strokes, material colour conversion, or animation frame conversion are required.
Frequently asked questions
Does Grease Pencil From Mesh work with Blender 5.1?
Yes. Grease Pencil From Mesh supports Blender versions 3.1 through 5.1. Different builds correspond to specific Blender releases, so choose the build that matches your Blender version.
Can Grease Pencil From Mesh output curves instead of Grease Pencil objects?
Yes. In addition to Grease Pencil output, the Pro and ProS builds can produce Curves as an alternative conversion result.
What’s the difference between the Pro and ProS versions of Grease Pencil From Mesh?
The free build provides basic mesh‑to‑Grease Pencil conversion. The Pro build adds intersection lines, curved‑surface outlines, animation and Text Object conversion, and Curves output. The ProS build includes all Pro features plus rendering of shadows and highlights.
Can Grease Pencil From Mesh convert animated meshes?
Yes. The add‑on includes frame‑by‑frame animation conversion, allowing animated meshes to be converted into Grease Pencil strokes across multiple frames.
Is Grease Pencil From Mesh free?
The catalog lists a free version, but Pro and ProS tiers are paid. The free build is available at no cost, while the additional features require purchase.
