About Node Group Utilities
Node Group Utilities is a Blender add‑on that expands the node editor with tools for node groups used in materials, geometry, and compositing. It can set a node group’s default values to match the current input socket values, and a Reset to Default Values option reverts sockets to those defaults. Version 2.1.1 also adds a Backspace shortcut to reset a group. The Socket Maker node, accessed from the Add menu, provides dummy sockets of Integer, Boolean, and String types; connecting a Group Input to one of these sockets creates a custom input socket. For Blender versions prior to 4.0, an Add Label command in the right‑click menu lets you attach labels to organize sockets. The add‑on is released under the GNU GPL v2.0 or later and requires no special permissions.
Features
- Set Default Values sets a selected node group’s defaults to match the current values of its input sockets, avoiding configuring each socket individually
- Reset to Default Values reverts a node group’s input sockets to their default values
- Reset a node group by pressing Backspace, added in version 2.1.1
- Socket Maker node, added from the Add menu, acts as a dummy node with various socket types including Integer, Boolean, and String
- Connect the Group Input node to a Socket Maker socket to create a custom input socket
- Add Label option in the right-click menu attaches labels to a node group for organizing sockets in Blender versions before 4.0
Best for
Blender users who build node‑based materials, geometry, or compositing setups and need faster control over group defaults, custom socket types, and socket labeling.
