About Fracture-Iterator

Fracture-Iterator is a GPL‑licensed Blender addon designed to streamline destruction workflows. It launches Blender’s built‑in Cell Fracture addon to split objects and lets users enable rigid body dynamics on fragments at the current frame while previous dynamics continue. The tool supports breaking by loose parts, allowing precut pieces to fracture as intended, and includes a Rigid Body “Animated” keyframe trigger for one‑click activation. Preset modes simplify the iterative process, and all actions can be baked to keyframes. The addon resides in a FRACTURE tab and can operate with alternative breaking tools. Scenes created with Fracture-Iterator do not require the addon to be installed for opening, only for animation building and playback.

Features

  • Breaks objects using Blender’s internal Cell Fracture addon, launched from the first button
  • Enables dynamics on fragments at the current frame while keeping previous dynamics ahead
  • Break by loose parts, so you can precut an object to break the way you want
  • Rigid Body “Animated” keyframe trigger to enable rigid bodies for selected objects in one click
  • Preset modes with a simplified workflow and new layout
  • Ability to bake everything to keyframes
  • Option to break with a tool other than Cell Fracture

Best for

Blender artists creating destruction and fracture simulations who need precise, iterative control over break timing and physics integration.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions does Fracture-Iterator support?

Fracture-Iterator provides builds for multiple Blender releases: version 1.75 targets Blender 4.4 and newer including the 5.x series; version 1.7 targets Blender 4.2; version 1.6 targets Blender 4.0; version 1.5.1 works up to Blender 3.6; earlier builds support Blender 2.8–2.9, with a crash fix for 2.83 in version 1.31.

Do I need the Cell Fracture addon to use Fracture-Iterator?

Yes. The addon relies on Blender’s Cell Fracture addon, which must be enabled before using Fracture-Iterator. While a later update added support for alternative breaking tools, enabling Cell Fracture ensures full functionality.

Do scenes made with Fracture-Iterator need it installed to open?

No. The addon is only required during animation creation and playback. Files saved with Fracture-Iterator can be opened in Blender without the addon installed, as the dependency is limited to the fracture animation stage.

Is Fracture-Iterator free, and what license does it use?

Fracture-Iterator is listed as free and is released under the GPL license. Users should verify the current licensing terms on the developer’s page before using it in projects.

How does Fracture-Iterator combine keyframes and physics?

The addon uses a recursive workflow where the user selects which fragments break and at which frame. Dynamics are activated on those fragments at the chosen frame while earlier dynamics keep running. A Rigid Body “Animated” keyframe trigger enables rigid bodies for selected objects with one click, and the entire process can be baked to keyframes for final animation.
