About Point Cloud Visualizer

Point Cloud Visualizer is a Blender add‑on for working with colored point cloud files. It can display, edit, filter, render, convert, generate and export point clouds, showing hundreds of millions of colored points in the 3D viewport, limited only by system and GPU memory. Any Blender object can act as a container for the points, which remain outside Blender data until converted for optimal performance.

The add‑on reads PLY, LAS/LAZ, E57, PCD and text‑based formats such as PTS, XYZ, TXT and CSV, and writes PLY, LAS/LAZ, E57 and PTS through a custom reader/writer. It also loads, edits and writes 3D Gaussian Splatting PLY files, can reconstruct point colors from spherical harmonics, and convert them to a Blender mesh rendered in Cycles. Editing tools include modal selection cleanup, retopology snapping, clipping plane gizmos and various filters.

Built‑in GPU rendering outputs images or sequences with viewport or transparent backgrounds. Points can be converted to Blender mesh and VDB volume data for Geometry Nodes and any render engine, and PLY sequences support playback, batch conversion, filtering and export.

Features

  • Displays hundreds of millions of colored points in the 3D viewport, limited only by system and GPU memory
  • Any Blender object can hold the points, which stay outside Blender data until converted, for maximal performance
  • Reads PLY, LAS/LAZ, E57, PCD and text formats such as PTS, XYZ, TXT and CSV; writes PLY, LAS/LAZ, E57 and PTS via a custom reader and writer
  • Fast Navigation draws subsampled points while navigating for smoother work with very large datasets
  • Cleanup with modal selection tools or Blender edit mode through a temporary mesh linked to the points, plus retopology tools that snap vertices to points
  • Built-in GPU rendering to image or image sequence with viewport or transparent background
  • Works with PLY sequences for playback, batch convert, filter and export; sequences can also be generated from mesh or scene

Best for

Users who need to import, visualize, edit, filter, convert and render large colored point clouds—including lidar, photogrammetry and 3D Gaussian splatting data—directly inside Blender.

Frequently asked questions

Which platforms does Point Cloud Visualizer support?

Point Cloud Visualizer runs inside Blender on Windows (x64), Linux (x64) and macOS (arm64 and x64). All required libraries are bundled with the add‑on for these platforms.

What point cloud file formats can Point Cloud Visualizer read and write?

The add‑on can read PLY, LAS/LAZ, E57, PCD and text formats such as PTS, XYZ, TXT and CSV, and it can write PLY, LAS/LAZ, E57 and PTS.

Does Point Cloud Visualizer support 3D Gaussian Splatting PLY files?

Yes. It supports loading, editing and writing 3D Gaussian Splatting PLY files, can reconstruct colors from spherical harmonics, and can convert the data to a Blender mesh for Cycles rendering.

Is Point Cloud Visualizer free, and what does the Pro edition add?

The version listed in the catalog is free. A separate Pro edition is offered by the developer, adding a Tiles mode for LOD/Octree loading, extra measurement tools and shading options for non‑color datasets.
